CHN Energy Anhui completes full grid connection for BIPV project

CHN Energy Anhui Branch successfully achieved full-capacity grid connection for the Yingchun Furnace Charge Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) Project at Qingyang County, Chizhou Power Plant on July 21. 

As one of the largest single BIPV projects featuring a space frame structure in east China's Anhui Province, the project applies advanced BIPV technology to establish a distributed clean energy system that prioritizes self-consumption while feeding surplus electricity into the grid.

BIPV, or Building-Integrated Photovoltaics, integrates photovoltaic modules directly into building materials such as roofs and walls, enabling them to serve both as structural components and power-generating facilities.

Yingchun Furnace Charge BIPV project at Chizhou Company 

The project is located in Dingqiao Town, Qingyang County, Chizhou City, Anhui Province, and is built on the 21,500-square-metre space-frame roof of Yingchun Furnace Charge Company's No. 3 raw material warehouse. It has an installed DC capacity of 4.39 megawatts and an installed AC capacity of 3.692 megawatts.

According to estimates, the project will generate an average of 4.1152 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, saving approximately 1,300 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 3,400 tons each year. In addition, the project saved approximately 2.4 million yuan (around 354,395 USD) in construction costs through reduced use of auxiliary materials such as purlins and colour-coated steel sheets. 

The successful grid connection of the project demonstrates significant value as a model for future development. From an environmental perspective, it will continuously supply clean electricity, optimise the regional energy mix, and provide strong support for local efforts to advance China's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. From an industrial perspective, the project makes productive use of previously underutilised industrial rooftop space, enabling more efficient use of building assets. 

By consuming green electricity on site, it also helps reduce electricity costs for enterprises and provides a replicable model for the green and low-carbon transformation of industrial and mining enterprises across the province. From a technological perspective, the project fully validates the safety and feasibility of applying BIPV solutions to large industrial space-frame structures, fills a technological gap for comparable projects in Anhui Province, and establishes mature expertise in integrated construction as well as operation and maintenance.
